It is with our deepest regret that the 2014 Tinfoilman Triathlon has been cancelled.  As many of you know, the Modern Streetcar necessitated a new bike course if the Tucson Triathlon Series races were to continue.    Working with the City of Tucson, a new bike course was recently approved but it has been determined that it is not feasible due to safety concerns, traffic issues, and insurmountable extra costs related to the course.

For those of you unfamiliar with TriTucson’s history, this is our 21st year producing multi-sport events and the 2014 Tinfoilman would have been the 60th Tucson Triathlon Series race.   This was not an easy decision.  We are unsure what the future holds for our series.  Please visit early in 2015 for more information.

We are working with and USATriathlon to issue refunds to your credit card.

Course Details

The 750 meter swim will be run "serpentine style" in the University of Arizona's Hillenbrand Aquatic Center pool. The pool will be set up Long Course (50 meters). Swimmers will be started one after the other at regular intervals in lane #1. Each swimmer will swim 2 lengths (up and back) in each of the first seven 50 meter lanes and 1 length in the 8th lane for a total of 750 meters.

For more information about the Serpentine Swim, click here to view a detail map.

It is very important that you provide an accurate swim time estimate on the online registration . If you are not sure please time yourself before sending in your entry. Entries will not be accepted without an estimated time."  (click to view map)

We ask for an estimated 800 YARD swim time on the entry form because most people have access to 25 yard pools and an 800 time is an easier distance to estimate based on practice times. The deadline to update your estimated time is 2 weeks prior to race day.

USA Triathlon has provided a list of approved skinsuits and speedsuits for use in any water temperature- please review this information.

The bike course is a new course for this event.  Please read the following and review the map at the link below.

The bike course is 12 miles on partially closed city streets.  You will complete 3 laps of north on Campbell (.3 miles), east on Speedway (1 mile) , south on Country Club (1 mile), west on Broadway (1 mile), north on Campbell (.7 miles).  These are all wide roads (4 lanes each, 2 have dividers) with the curbside lane coned off from traffic.  Police officers are at all intersections controlling traffic for you.   This is a very flat course, with only slight, constant grades (Broadway is slightly downhill, Campbell and Speedway are slightly uphill).  There are no lap counters here, we trust that your integrity will prevail and you will complete at least 3 laps (some have done 4 accidentally).  There are no aid stations on the bike course. (click to view map)

The run is 3 miles, very flat, through University of Arizona campus.   See the map for details.  Water is available 3 times on the run. (click to view map)

Both transitions are in the same area, in the parking lot south of Hillenbrand Pool.  There are bike racks and volunteers to guide you through this area.  From the swim, you will enter the transition from the east end, and exit on your bike at the west end.  DO NOT get on your bike until out of the transition area.   From the bike, you will again enter from the east end, and again run out the west end.
